SUCK UK
The folks over at SUCK UK have some very cool stuff!
SwissMiss featured the Analog Digit Cake Molds. I wonder if it would be redundant if you used the numbered candles?
Another funny thing I found was this Dead Fred pen holder. I’m not sure if I would want to take my aggression out on the thing, people walking by might wonder. But I think it’s a very interesting way to store your pen so it’s always at the ready. I really like the blood trail in this image, though I’m not sure how maintenance would like that once I move out of my cube.
Eye Tracking
We are conducting an eye tracking study here at Staples next week. We had our training on how to use the Tobii Studio for data collection and analysis. It all seems very cool! While doing some YouTube searching, I came across this video of dsmith3689 adapting the Tobii eye-tracking machines to operate a FPS game.
Stainless Steel Straws
These stainless steel straws would add a polished look to many a dinner parties. Although I wonder if they would be really cold on your lips?

Real Guitar “Guitar Hero”
A new game is coming for PS3 and Xbox 360 called Power Gig: Rise of the SixString which allows the “musician” to use a 6 string full-fret guitar. You can also plug the peripheral/instrument into an amp and rock out. Don’t hold your breath, the game is slated to come out in Fall 2010.

Handy Hoodie Ideas
I have been known to wear a hoodie for many days of my life! I may or may not even be wearing one as I write this. But the folks over at Conceptual Devices have come up with other things to do with hoodies besides wearing them. Check it out. Even more ideas after the jump.

Keyboard with Useful Chat Shortcuts
I do pride myself on good spelling and proper grammar, but when I’m chatting via the Interwebs, I have been known to use and abuse the “lol” “ic” “brb” “ttyl” lingo. Here’s a keyboard – the FastFinger – that you can grab which will help to make things faster. They also apparently have the option to switch to ABC mode. I’m not really sure who would do that? Maybe this keyboard is in reality designed for my mom and or my grandma. Most people who I know who use phrases like “brb” and “lol” are skilled typers [I pride myself on not actually needed to look at the keyboard]. So, then, who would ever want to re-learn how to type on an ABC keyboard?
So I’ve concluded, this keyboard is designed for the hunters and the peckers who care to save time and look cool by using cool lingo. Because seriously, in the time it takes me to actually find which F# key holds the 3-4 character phrase, I could have just typed it out.

Note: After actually reading the whole Gadgetell article, it seems like this keyboard was designed for kids. Not a bad idea, until they have to go to school or work and figure out how to use QWERTY.
Dream CAPTCHA
Previously I posted about Illustrating CAPTCHAs. GUS23 has come up with another way to “feature” CAPTCHAs: Dream CAPTCHA. I wonder what types of dreams you will have with thing hanging above your bed?

Type Efficiency
As a great follow up to my previous post, Matt Robinson recently took to drawing on walls to display the ink efficiency of various fonts. After drawing them large scale on a wall, the ink left over in the ball point pens shows how efficient the font are. In an ironic twist, the fonts which were most ink efficient, are lease energy efficient on a computer screen, as the more white the more energy required to light up the screen.

Common Fonts Across Different OS
I am looking to embark on a slight redesign of my resumé, a tweaking shall we say. I want to design in a way so that it will come across consistently when viewed on different machines. One of the worst errors to make is using a font that doesn’t come through on other’s machines, followed only slightly behind by using Comic Sans. A quick Google search reveals the 18 “browser-safe fonts”. But don’t forget to read the notes at the bottom! The site also has screen shots from different OS and browsers. Now I just have to decide which one(s) to use!
